How to Check Your Refund Status (Step-by-Step)

  1. Go to MyTax portal Visit mytax.hasil.gov.my and click Login. Enter your TIN (Tax Identification Number / No. Cukai Pendapatan) and password. First time? See the MyTax registration guide.
  2. Click "e-Semakan" in the top menu After logging in, look for the e-Semakan menu in the navigation bar. This is the enquiry / status-check section of MyTax.
  3. Select "Semakan Bayaran Balik" From the e-Semakan dropdown, choose Semakan Bayaran Balik (Tax Refund Check). This will show all pending and processed refunds linked to your TIN.
  4. Choose your Year of Assessment Select the Year of Assessment (YA). For income earned in 2025 (filed in 2026), select YA 2025. For income earned in 2024 (filed in 2025), select YA 2024.
  5. Read your refund status The portal displays one of three status codes. See the status guide below for what each means and what to do next.

Refund Status Codes Explained

In Progress
Dalam Proses
LHDN is reviewing your tax return. Refund not yet approved. This is normal for the first 7–14 working days. No action needed — check back in a few days.
Approved
Diluluskan
Your refund has been approved. The amount is being processed for bank transfer. Usually credited within 3–5 more working days. Verify your bank account is correct in MyTax.
Don't see any status? If nothing shows under Semakan Bayaran Balik, either: (A) LHDN has not yet started processing your return, (B) you do not have an overpayment refund (your PCB matched your tax liability), or (C) you owe LHDN money rather than being owed a refund.

How to Register or Update Your Bank Account

LHDN credits refunds directly to your registered bank account. Without a valid bank account on file, LHDN may issue a cheque (slower) or withhold payment.

  1. Log in to MyTax Go to mytax.hasil.gov.my and log in.
  2. Go to MyProfile → Maklumat Bank Click your name or profile icon in the top right. Select Maklumat Bank (Bank Details) from the menu.
  3. Add or update your bank account Enter your bank name, account number, and account holder name (must match your NRIC name). Supported banks: Maybank, CIMB, Public Bank, RHB, Hong Leong, AmBank, Bank Islam, BSN, and most major Malaysian banks.
  4. Save and verify Confirm the details. Changes may take 1–2 working days to reflect. Update this before your return is assessed — changes made after approval may not apply to the current refund cycle.

What to Do If Your Refund Is Late

If your status has been Dalam Proses for more than 30 working days, or Diluluskan for more than 7 working days without a bank credit, take these steps:

Step 1 — Confirm your bank account is correct. Log in to MyTax → MyProfile → Maklumat Bank. If the account number is wrong or missing, update it immediately and call LHDN to request a re-issue.
Step 2 — Contact LHDN directly. Have your TIN (No. Cukai Pendapatan), NRIC, and Year of Assessment ready before calling.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does LHDN take to process a tax refund?
For e-Filing, refunds typically take 7–30 working days from LHDN's assessment date. Manual/paper filing takes 2–3 months. The clock starts from when LHDN completes its assessment — not from your submission date, which can be days earlier.
Will LHDN direct credit or send a cheque?
If you have a bank account registered in MyTax, LHDN will do a direct bank transfer (IBG). If no bank account is registered, LHDN may issue a crossed cheque mailed to your registered address. Bank transfer is faster — register your account in MyTax now if you haven't.
What if I submitted the wrong bank account number?
Log in to MyTax immediately and update your bank account under MyProfile → Maklumat Bank. If the refund has already been processed to the wrong account, call LHDN at 03-8911 1000 — they can trace and re-issue the payment, but this adds weeks to the process.
My status shows "Diluluskan" but no money in my account — what do I do?
"Diluluskan" (Approved) means LHDN has approved your refund but the bank transfer hasn't processed yet. Wait 3–5 more working days. If still nothing, verify your bank account number is correct in MyTax, then call LHDN at 1-800-88-5436.
My LHDN refund is more than 30 working days late — what do I do?
Call LHDN Hasil Care Line at 1-800-88-5436 (toll-free). Have your TIN, NRIC, and Year of Assessment ready. You can also visit the nearest LHDN branch or submit a query through MyTax's e-Aduan feature. Escalating by phone is usually fastest.
LHDN says I owe money instead of getting a refund — what now?
This means your monthly PCB deductions were insufficient. You must pay the outstanding amount by April 30 (Form BE) to avoid penalties. Pay via FPX or credit card at mytax.hasil.gov.my, JomPAY (biller code 30001), or over the counter at any LHDN branch. See the e-filing guide for payment methods.
Can I check someone else's refund status (e.g., my spouse)?
No. Semakan Bayaran Balik only shows refunds for the TIN you are logged in with. Each taxpayer must check their own account. For joint assessment couples, the refund goes to the person whose TIN was used to file.
