What Is EPF Account 3?
EPF introduced a three-account structure in May 2024, splitting your monthly EPF contributions across three separate sub-accounts instead of the previous two. Account 3 — officially called Akaun Fleksibel — is the new addition.
Unlike Account 1 (locked until age 55) and Account 2 (restricted to specific withdrawals), Account 3 can be withdrawn at any time, for any reason, with no minimum age and no documentation required. EPF designed it as a financial buffer for short-term needs.
Key fact: Account 3 became active on 11 May 2024. Members who were already EPF contributors on that date had a portion of their existing Account 2 balance transferred into Account 3 as the seed amount. Contributions from May 2024 onwards include the 10% allocation to Account 3.
The 75 / 15 / 10 Contribution Split
From May 2024 onwards, your monthly EPF contributions (employee + employer) are divided as follows:
75%
Account 1
Akaun Persaraan
Core retirement savings. Grows with EPF dividends. Cannot be touched until age 55 (except medical, death, or leaving Malaysia permanently).
Locked until 55
15%
Account 2
Akaun Sejahtera
Restricted withdrawals: housing (buy/build/reduce loan), education, health, Tabung Haji, and Unit Trust investments.
Conditional

Account 3
Akaun Fleksibel
Flexible. Withdraw anytime, for any purpose, with no documentation needed. Minimum RM1.

Note for members who joined before May 2024: EPF transferred a portion of your existing Account 2 balance into Account 3 as your initial seed. The split going forward (from May 2024 contributions) is 75/15/10. Check your i-Akaun to see your current Account 3 balance.
How to Check Your Account 3 Balance on i-Akaun
Your Account 3 balance is visible in i-Akaun — the EPF's official app and web portal.
-
Download the i-Akaun app or go to kwsp.gov.my
The i-Akaun app is available on both iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play). Alternatively, log in at the official website: kwsp.gov.my. Do not use third-party apps claiming to show EPF data.
-
Log in with your MyEPF username and password
Your username is typically your IC number (without dashes). If you have never registered i-Akaun, you can self-register online — you will need your IC number and a registered mobile number linked to your EPF record.
-
View your account summary on the dashboard
After logging in, the dashboard shows your total EPF balance broken down by account. Look for "Akaun Fleksibel" or "Account 3" — this is the amount available for flexible withdrawal. The figure shown is the balance as of the last contribution update.
-
Check contribution history if needed
Under "Statement" or "Penyata Caruman", you can see a detailed breakdown of contributions by month and how they were allocated across the three accounts. This is useful for verifying your employer's contributions are up to date.
i-Akaun login issues? If you have forgotten your password, reset it at kwsp.gov.my → "Lupa Kata Laluan". If your account is locked or you have never registered, visit any EPF branch (Ibu Pejabat or cawangan) with your IC to get assistance. Hotline: 03-8922 6000.
How to Withdraw from Account 3 via i-Akaun
The withdrawal process is straightforward and takes less than 5 minutes once you are logged in. Funds typically arrive within 1–3 working days.
-
Log in to i-Akaun app
Open the i-Akaun app on your phone. Withdrawals are easiest on the mobile app; the web portal also supports it but some users report the app is more reliable for transaction confirmation.
-
Go to Pengeluaran (Withdrawal) → Akaun Fleksibel
From the main menu, tap "Pengeluaran" (Withdrawal). Select "Akaun Fleksibel" as the account type. You will see your available balance and the withdrawal input field.
-
Enter the amount to withdraw
Minimum withdrawal: RM1. Maximum: your full available Account 3 balance. You can withdraw the full balance in one transaction. There is no monthly limit on the number of withdrawals, but each withdrawal request must be completed before starting another.
-
Verify your bank account
The payout goes to your registered bank account in i-Akaun. Only one bank account can be registered at a time. To change your bank account, go to i-Akaun → "Kemaskini Akaun Bank" (Update Bank Account) — you may need to wait 3 working days after changing before a withdrawal can be processed.
-
Confirm and authenticate
Review the withdrawal summary — amount, destination bank, estimated arrival. Confirm with your i-Akaun PIN (and biometric if enabled). After confirmation, you will receive a transaction reference number. Save this for tracking.
-
Funds arrive in 1–3 working days
EPF sends an SMS notification once the funds are credited. If you do not receive funds within 5 working days, check the withdrawal status in i-Akaun under "Status Pengeluaran" or call the EPF hotline: 03-8922 6000.
No queue, no paperwork. Unlike Account 1 or Account 2 withdrawals that may require supporting documents (e.g., housing loan statement, degree certificate), Account 3 withdrawals require zero documentation — just your i-Akaun login.
Before You Withdraw: The Retirement Trade-Off
Account 3 earns the same EPF dividend as Accounts 1 and 2. Historically, EPF has declared dividends of 5% to 6.9% per year. Every ringgit you withdraw today stops compounding.

RM 47,427 |
The table shows the additional future value you give up — not the principal. If you withdraw RM10,000 today with 30 years to retirement, your retirement pot will be ~RM47K smaller (from just that withdrawal, compounded at 6% annual dividend).
Account 3 is a buffer, not a spending account. EPF introduced it for genuine financial emergencies — medical bills, job loss, urgent repairs. Treat it like a last-resort fund, not a lifestyle supplement. Once withdrawn, the money and its compounded growth are gone permanently.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I opt out of Account 3 and put all contributions into Account 1?
No. The 75/15/10 split is mandatory and set by EPF. Individual members cannot change the allocation percentages. You can choose not to withdraw from Account 3, but you cannot redirect those contributions to Account 1.
I joined EPF before May 2024 — how was my Account 3 seeded?
EPF transferred a portion of your Account 2 balance into Account 3 when the new structure launched in May 2024. The seed amount varied based on your existing Account 2 balance at the time. Your total EPF savings did not change — it was a reallocation, not a new deposit.
Does Account 3 earn the same dividend as Account 1?
Yes. All three accounts earn the same EPF dividend rate declared each year (Simpanan Konvensional rate for non-Syariah, Simpanan Shariah for the Islamic option). Account 3 is not penalised with a lower dividend rate.
Is there a minimum withdrawal amount from Account 3?
The minimum withdrawal is RM1. You can withdraw any amount from RM1 up to your full available Account 3 balance in a single transaction. There is no official cap on how many times per year you can withdraw.
What if I have never registered i-Akaun?
You can self-register online at kwsp.gov.my or on the i-Akaun app using your IC number and a phone number linked to your EPF record. If your phone number is not in EPF's system (common for older members), visit any EPF branch with your IC to register in person. Bring your bank account details too while you are there.
Account 1 and Account 2 rules — have they changed?
No. Account 1 (now 75% allocation, previously 70%) remains locked until age 55. Account 2 (15%, previously 30%) still allows specific withdrawals for housing, education, health, and similar approved purposes. Only Account 3 is new and freely accessible.
Can I use Account 3 funds for income tax relief?
No. The EPF tax relief (up to RM4,000 per year) applies to your contributions to EPF, not to withdrawals. Withdrawing from Account 3 has no tax implications — EPF savings and dividends are tax-exempt in Malaysia regardless of which account you withdraw from.
