How ASB loan interest works: Unlike car loans, ASB financing uses a reducing balance method. Interest is calculated on the remaining loan balance each month, so you pay less interest as the principal reduces. This is more favourable than flat-rate loans. The ASB units purchased act as collateral for the loan.
Key assumption: This calculator assumes dividends are reinvested (compounded) annually into your ASB account, which is the default ASNB setting. If you withdraw dividends, your actual returns will be lower.

Tips for ASB Financing

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ASB loan worth it in 2026?

It depends on the dividend rate vs your loan interest rate. If the ASB dividend (historically 4.25%–6.75%) exceeds your loan's effective interest rate, the loan generates a net profit. Use this calculator to compare your specific scenario. Most ASB loans at current bank rates (3.5%–5%) are profitable if ASB dividends stay above 4.5%.

What is the current ASB dividend rate?

For 2025, ASB declared a distribution of 5.00 sen per unit (5.00%). The 10-year average is approximately 5.1%. Note that ASB dividends are not guaranteed and are declared annually by ASNB.

Which bank offers the lowest ASB loan rate?

As of 2026, Maybank typically offers the most competitive ASB financing rates starting from around 3.50% (reducing balance). CIMB, RHB, and Bank Rakyat also offer competitive rates. Always compare using this calculator and confirm directly with banks.

Is ASB loan Shariah compliant?

Some banks offer Shariah-compliant ASB financing (ASB-i). Bank Islam, Maybank Islamic, and CIMB Islamic offer ASB-i financing based on Tawarruq or Commodity Murabahah. The profit rate may differ slightly from conventional rates.

What is the maximum ASB loan amount?

The maximum ASB investment is RM300,000 per individual. Most banks offer ASB financing from RM10,000 up to RM200,000, depending on your income and eligibility.

What happens if ASB dividend drops below my loan rate?

If the dividend rate falls below your loan interest rate, you'd make a net loss that year. However, you can usually continue holding the investment as dividends fluctuate. Historically, ASB has never paid below 4.25% (since 2001). You can also consider early repayment if the outlook turns unfavourable.

Can non-Bumiputera take an ASB loan?

No. Amanah Saham Bumiputera (ASB) is exclusively for Bumiputera investors. Non-Bumiputera can invest in other Amanah Saham funds like ASM, AS 1Malaysia, or ASN Equity 3, but these funds have different dividend rates and terms.
